Gerber Mini Covert Automatic Knife
The Gerber Mini Covert was created for those who loved the orginial Covert Auto Knife
but were looking for something smaller. The made in the USA Mini Covert, model 30-000244, features a high quality S30V stainless steel blade with a tactical black coat. A reasonable thin profile and a semi open frame construction combine to make this knife a comfortable carry knife. With a closed length of 3.8", the Mini Covert has a 2.8" blade and is a full 6.5" when open. This is a great every day carry knife if you are looking for a knife that fits comfortably in your pocket yet gives you the size you need to get daily jobs done.
The S30V blade on the Mini Covert sports the classic modified clip point tip. The blade has partial serrations that are just under 3/4" long. The blade comes sharp enough for serious work right out of the box. If you want a high quality knife, one of the most critical aspects is the blade steel. In my experience, S30V will never let you down. It takes a great edge and stays sharp much longer than most other steels. The Mini Covert blade is perfect for daily use applications.
The handle of the Mini Covert is built from hard anodized aluminum. This makes the knife lightweight yet still maintains strength. In fact, the entire knife weighs only 2.1 ounces. I especially like the two indents on the handle near the top. These indentations give your thumb and forefinger a natural gripping point when you hold the knife. Along the front and back of the handle there are three grooves that run nearly the full length of the handle. These give you even more grip. And at the base of the handle there is a 1/8" lanyard hole that is perfect if you want to attach your knife to some type of gear. The hole is the ideal size for paracord.
SAFETY AND FIRE BUTTON
The fire button stands proud near the very top right side of the handle. The slide safety is just below and centered in the handle. One particularly neat feature about the safety is when you slide it down and make the knife "live" a red dot shows in the safety recess. This way you know if your knife is on safe or not at just a glance. To lock the knife, just slide the safety back up. I have used one of these knives for several months and have never had an accidental fire. Simple, basic, and user friendly. I always like knives that place the safety near the trigger so that I can activate the knife with just one hand. .
I rank the Gerber Mini Covert as an A. This small auto knife carries in your pocket with or without the pocket clip and is small enough that you can carry it almost anywhere. This discreet auto knife is built from high quality materials and is light enough that you almost don't know you have it in your pocket. With the Applegate Fairbairn design, the Mini Covert definitely has a military feel to it. Gerber Knives
makes some great automatic knives and the Mini Covert is definitely one of them.
