Not only does Gerber's newest automatic knife, the DMF, have my favorite style of automatic opener--very similar to SOG's Arc-Lock system or Benchmade's Auto-Axis system, the DMF automatic knife is made for action. This sturdy knife has a built in pommel strike that is an integral part of the tang so it gets the job done when you need to use the base of the handle as a strike point. Think breaking glass to escape or using it as another defense point. Gerber made the handles of their newest automatic knife from G-10 to give it strength but not too much weight. I really like how this knife feels in my hand. It is easy to open from either side (good news for left handed users) and the oversized spine safety is simple to trigger but not easy to accidently trigger. You push it into the knife and then slide it down. The big and beefy DMF automatic knife by Gerber gets high points from me for the attention to detail, the quality of materials, and the ease of use. This is just the kind of knife I want with me when the going gets tough.
