Shaken, Not Stirred
As of the most iconic phrases from the famous British Secret Service Agent James Bond, "shaken, not stirred" comes to mind when observing the Boker Magnum 007. Besides the obvious name of the knife, there are other characteristics to the Magnum that help bring to mind this deadly gentleman. Its handle finish and its potential for being a gentleman knife, further enhance this imagery of the secret agent. When holding this knife, you will want to say in that sly British accent, "A Boker Magnum. Shaken, not stirred."
During Mr. Bonds career, both in film and in the novel, a Magnum revolver was used several times. While a Boker Magnum was never used, surely Bond would have used it if he had been given the chance to wield it.

Many items listed above will be reviewed in more detail later on, but one key thing to point out from this list is the Boker Magnums blade style. Being a drop point blade helps fulfill many different tasks, and makes the knife a great all-around blade. It has a decent cutting edge, and its tip is an average size to be useful in a variety of ways including fine carving and cutting. It is strong and thick enough to withstand a great amount of pressure.
The Handle
One of the unique characteristics that set the Boker Magnum 007 apart, aside its name, is its handle. The handle gives distinct qualities to the knife to make it a nice addition to any knife collection. Both the handles material and its finish make the Boker Magnum 007 special.
Handle Material
The handle material on the Boker Magnum 007 is comprised of an aluminum alloy. Aluminum is usually treated by anodizing the metal to obtain its color, hardness, and protection. It is a durable metal for knife handles. Its low density provides for a nice, light feel to the knife without weighing the knife down. The most common type of aluminum used today a T6-6061 alloy. When aluminum is properly texturized, the handle can provide a considerably secure grip that is both comfortable and easy to hold. Despite its smooth appearance, it also provides excellent grip and is especially suitable for knives that will be used in harsh weather conditions or even in just very wet conditions. Another property that aluminum possesses is a high corrosion resistance. One possible negative effect that an aluminum handle can have is its conductive property. When it is cold out, the knifes metal will cool down too. This can be potentially uncomfortable for some people, but others may take favor to this property. Because of the way the Magnum handle is finished, with its discrete looking finger holds and its parallel grooves on the handles surface, it provides a solid grip to hold while using the knife.
Handle Finish
Besides, the iconic 007 number/name that is represented with the Boker Magnum 007, is the color of the handles finish. While there is no color name given from Boker to the Magnum 007, the closest color it resembles is a champagne color. Ironic that an alcoholic named color would be used on a 007 knife. Although bearing little actual resemblance to the color of the wine itself, the name "champagne" is used to describe the pale, yellow-silver metallic hue. Champagne takes on several characteristics from a variety of colors. Those colors include gold, brown, ivory and white, and silver.
Gold is a color that represents success, achievement, or triumph. It suggests luxury and quality, value and elegance, affluence, and material wealth. When reflected at the right angle, while holding the Boker Magnum, the gold in the champagne color shines forth the most.
Brown is a down-to-earth color that signifies stability, structure, and support. Of all of the colors in the champagne, this is the least represented. This can suggest that while there is a stability in the knife, the Mangum just wants to go, go, and go. It needs to be constantly on the move, and it needs to be used continuously.
Ivory is a softer version of white with a tiny amount of brown in it. It was traditionally treated as a tainted, and impure white. Although similar to white, it is a warmer, richer and more sophisticated color. While pure white is plain, ivory is soft and embraces whatever it stands near. This is a crucial part to the color champagne. The ivory helps include the other colors it is mixed with, as well as sticking out from the crowd.
Blade Finish
The Magnum 007 has its blade finished in a way so that it does not distract from the exclusive handle finish. It is finished by being bead blasted. A bead blast finish is done by altering the finish of a metal surface by blasting it with particles (usually glass beads, sand, or aluminum oxide) to achieve a dull, non-reflective matte finish. Bead blasting produces a smoother finish than other angular abrasives. There is no dimensional change to the metal surface. Glass bead blasting leaves no embedded contaminants or residue. This process smooths away any surface defects. Glass bead blasting has the potential to improve corrosion resistance as well. Some other advantages to having a bead blast finish are that scratches are not as noticeable as other finishes. Along with that, they do not show fingerprints or other smudges as easily. The bead blast finish, because of its matte look to it, does not draw attention to itself. Thus giving more attention to the handle finish.
Modified Gentleman's Knife
Sticking with the James Bond theme, the Boker Magnum 007 could be considered a modified gentlemans knife. One definition explains a gentlemens carrying knife as, A knife that is appropriate to carry with business attire in an urban environment. It's functional and classy without being tactical looking (i.e., without unnecessary, menacing, mall ninja-type features). While a normal auto knife would be considered as not being a gentlemans knife, the Magnum 007 serves as an exception to that classification. Its classy look is too good to pass up from carrying it in a gentleman's way. This does not mean that the Magnum cannot take a beating from more extensive tasks. Like Mr. Bond, one moment the Magnum can be sophisticated, but then in the next moment it can become a fighting machine.
Blade Steel
The steel that is used on the Magnum 007 is the Japanese manufactured AUS-8 Stainless Steel. AUS-8 is said to be compared to steels such as 440C, Cm-154, and D2. This steel is exceptionally hard and is quite capable of achieving and retaining a sharp edge. This well-rounded knife has high quality in its hardness, toughness, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. While this metal is still far from being perfect, it is a quality steel for what it costs to produce.
Pros of Auto
With so many different options of knives available to choose from, what makes choosing an automatic knife a viable option? There are some distinct advantages to owning an auto knife. The first reason why someone would want to own one is because of how quickly the auto knives open. For some, this may not be a valid reason to purchase such a knife. However, having an auto knife can make all the difference between life and death. EMTs and other emergency response teams are constantly faced with tribulation that requires the usage of a decent knife. And in many high-stress situations, having a knife ready in a blink of an eye can help someone else live for one more day. Besides being quick, auto knives are able to be opened with just one hand. This is not only convenient for many people, this is also beneficial to those that may only have one hand. Lastly, an auto knife is just too cool. Being able to flash open a knife in the blink of an eye just by pressing a button or moving a switch is simply impressive.
Everyday Carry
For any kind of everyday carry knife, including the Magnum 007, there are certain expectations that they need to live up to. Those criteria are a good carry depth, a decent weight, a comfortable thickness, and a non-threatening appearance.
Carry Depth
The Magnums full length reaches 8 inches. But when it is closed, the knife measures to be 4.75 inches. This knife has a pretty long length for an everyday carry auto knife. For those that have a more shallow pants pocket, this knife will be too large. But for those that have normal to deep pockets, this knife will rest well within the pocket. The benefit of the closed length being over 4 inches is that there is little chance for the knife falling out of the pocket. The knife also has a pocket clip that goes over half the distance of the handle. This helps prevent a loose knife flying out of the pocket.
Weight
If you are going to be carrying a knife all day long, especially in your pocket, it should not be overweight or overbearing. The Magnum weighs 4.4oz. To help give an idea as to how much 4.4 ounces feels, a typical smartphone weighs around four and a half ounces. Have this weight in mind as you consider carrying the Magnum daily. Although it isnt as bulky as a smart phone, it is dense like one. The weight feels perfect on the Magnum. It is just the right amount to feel sturdy and solid while handling it. Also, the weight signals to you, while carrying it in your pocket, that it is there ready to use. The balance of weight between the blade and the handle is nearly symmetrical, though the handle weighs slightly more than the blade.
Thickness
Corresponding with the weight of the Magnum is its thickness. An awkward, bulky knife defeats the purpose of an everyday carry. An everyday carry knife should be thin enough to fit comfortably while carrying it, but also thick enough to have a good grip on it while using it. The Magnum is a little bit on the bulkier side, but this works well for those who have bigger hands. There is more to grab onto with the Magnum. It isnt too big that it becomes uncomfortable to carry.
Appearance
One of the last things to consider with an everyday carry is the appearance of the knife. We have covered much ground about how the Magnum looks. It has a moderate, but defiant look to it. Its sleek design is not extreme by any means. Compared to other knives the Magnum 007 is not intimidating. While considering an everyday carry knife to purchase, a good habit to get into is to keep in mind the environment where the knife will be in the most. Tactical or other menace looking knives might not be a good choice for a more conservative atmosphere, whereas a more tactical or aggressive looking knife would fit right into a different environment. With the Magnum, there is no need to worry about where you go with it. The knife looks great in any setting. With its blade and handle finishes, it looks too good not to be carrying it around all the time. This knife has to be shown off to everyone you know.
