Description

The Casbah side-open automatic knife is one of many new knives released by Benchmade this year. Modeled after the late H&K Patrol auto knife, this design features a textured Grivory® handle scale, a recessed firing button, a front-mounted slide safety design, multiple jimping locations for maximum retention in multiple grip styles and mild finger grooves which further improves upon control. This Black Class model, the 4400-1, features a blue Grivory® (nylon copolymer) handle, stainless steel liners, a drop point style blade in a satin finish and the deep carry pocket clip is designed for tip up carry only but is eligible for a left or right hand carry option. Made in the USA.

    I have a Benchmade CLA which I absolutely love, along with an assortment of other autos. I bought this one because I liked the steel, and for the price, for a Benchmade with this steel, it's a good knife. The handle grips well, it looks to be well built, locks up tight. Two things keep this one from getting five stars. First, this thing opens at the most leisurely pace of any auto knife I own. It's not a deal killer, but still, my CLA, Protechs, my Kershaw, they all snap open with confidence, this one not so much. Second, and this one is fixable by me but still a little irritating. This came out of the box borderline paper-tearing dull. It's just not got a very good edge on it. I don't know how that happens with a Benchmade, but it did.

    I've only had the knife for a week of so, but so far I love it. It's light, fits in my pocket nicely, and fits my average sized hand well. There's no slop in the blade at all. And obviously the S30V blade is excellent blade steel. For the cost, it's a real good knife.
