Two things stick out immediately about this knife. Firstly, it is perhaps the perfect size, shape and silhouette for an everyday carry knife. Second, it has an incredible amount of grip in your hand, offering a very snug secure feel. Using its tip-up pocket clip, it's easy to forget this knife is even there. It rides very well in the pocket, is lightweight and slim so it's perfect as an all-purpose EDC knife. When the blade is deployed, deep texturing on the handles and jimping along the choil and spine of the knife lend this a very firm, "grip-y" feel that adds security and dexterity while cutting.
The blade being 154CM steel means it offers ideal all-around performance-great resistance against corrosion with excellent toughness and edge retention. The AXIS mechanism offers incredibly smooth ambidextrous operation, and I found myself quickly (due to the knife's balance and design) able to easily operate it entirely with one hand, going from pocket carry to deployed and back in a matter of just a few seconds.
Benchmade's 557 Mini-Griptilian makes for such a superb EDC knife because of its winning combination of size, weight, cutting capabilities and design that you will find yourself using it day in and day out. Because of these features, not to mention having "Benchmade" on the blade and being in the sub-$100 price point, the Mini-Griptilian is a no-brainer choice for EDC that you will never regret having in your pocket.
