Benchmade 909SBK Stryker II Knife
The Benchmade 909SBK Stryker II knife has all
the hallmarks of a great duty knife. The
154CM stainless steel blade has a tanto point and a combo edge. The black G10 handle scales give you a solid
grip regardless of the environment.
BLADE
The 3.57 tanto blade has a partially serrated
edge. The tanto point is going to give you extra strength at the tip and the
blade has enough of an angle to it that it will perform admirably on piercing
cutsthe most important point being that it gives you extra heavy strength for
heavy piercing cuts. It performs well on
slicing cuts and the combo edge will allow you to slice straps, ropes, and
other materials with ease. The blade opens nice and smooth with either of the
thumb studs. It has a BK black coat.
Once open, the blade locks in place via the AXIS lockwhich is one of
the strongest locking systems on the market.
This is important, because when you pull out your knife in the line of
duty, the last thing you need is to be worried that it isnt strong enough for
the job. The 154CM stainless steel gives you a blade that will have serious
corrosion resistance, good edge retention as well as high strength
ratings. And when it comes time to
sharpen the blade, it isnt so hard of a steel that it makes the job nearly impossibleinstead,
154CM takes a good edge with relative ease.
I have a couple of 154CM knives and use both the Spyderco Sharpmaker as
well as the Ken Onion WorkSharp and have had great results with both
systems.
HANDLE
The 4.72 handle features black G10 scales on
skeletonized liners for extra strength without adding too much weight. The G10 has extremely grippy texture. This gives you confidence in your grip even
when the weather isnt cooperating. The
edges of the handle are all chamfered for a comfortable grip even when you are
gripping extra hard on the handle. A
single finger groove is moderately deep and allows your forefinger to keep a
nice, solid control point on the handle.
The spine has a small thumb ramp with some jimping on the handle liners
that gives your thumb a perfect position especially when making heavy
penetrating cuts. The handle has a
right/left reversible tip up pocket clip.
The handle also has a lanyard hole for alternate carry.
OTHER
The knife weighs 4.38 ounces which makes it an
ideal every day carry knife. It isnt so
heavy that it is going to bog you down.
Open, the knife measures 8.29 which makes it a mid sized knife. This is part of the Black Class of knives
from Benchmade Knives. This means it is
built and designed specifically for professionals where life and death
situations are just part of their day.
