Benchmade H&K Plan D Fixed Blade Knife
Fixed Wharncliffe style blade with curved profle N680 stainless steel blade (57-59 HRC) Contoured Grivory® handle scales with signature HK® texture Low profle, molded sheath with ambidextrous clip designed for duty belts
The Benchmade designed H&K 14125BK Plan D fixed blade knife is specifically designed as a last resort tool. With its curved profile, this knife can easily be wielded either in a traditional or reverse grip.
BLADE
Plan D sports a 2.9" Wharncliffe blade of N680 stainless steel. The RH of 57-59 makes it easy to keep sharp and yet it keeps an edge and so functions perfect as a utility knife or as a self defense tool of last resort. The curved full tang blade sports a large finger groove that gives you lots of control over the blade. On the spine of the blade there are five large "jimping" grooves that give your thumb extra control when you hold the knife in a traditional grip. The Wharncliffe style blade gives it maximum strength for piercing and penetration cuts--which makes it great as a self defense tool--and the straight edge makes it perfect for maximum cutting--which makes this knife great for use as a utility knife. The straight edge also makes it relatively easy to sharpen. I rate the blade a 10 out of 10--perfect for its intended purposes.
HANDLE
The handle scales on the Plan D are contoured Grivory. It provides plenty of grip and is slightly "chubby" for a better hold. Sometimes with small knives, the small handle is difficult to get a solid grip on. With the combination of the finger groove and jimping along with the chubby handle the Plan D offers a solid grip when held in the traditional grip. With a reverse grip, this knife does feel just a bit small. I don't feel the knife is going to slip out of my hand--but I do wish the handle was just a bit longer. The nice thing about Grivory is that it isn't going to warp or degrade in bad weather and bad conditions. Overall I rate the handle as an 8 out of 10.
OVERALL IMPRESSION
The Plan D is a fantastic back up knife that doubles as a utility knife. It comes with a low profile, molded sheath that is built specifically to fit duty belts. If everything else fails, the Plan D performs admirably as a "last resort" self defense tool. It is also perfect for basic use as a utility knife. I rate this H&K fixed blade knife a 9.25 out of 10.
