I lost my Benchmade Infidel over a year ago during an ill-advised trip to AZ with a couple relocated southern friends. Looking back on it I didn't even need a knife since there is no such thing as an unarmed southerner. But I didnt know that until about 0200 outside of Sholow in the loneliest part of the loneliest reservation ever, so I brought it along. I'm pretty sure I left it in a rental car when it got turned in, but there's no way to be sure during a mad scramble, and most of the trip was a mad scramble. The important part however, is that I had not replaced it, so I decided to take a slice of my surprise yearly bonus money and get a new knife. I am used to Microtechs being unobtanium so I was surprised to see several models in stock at Bladeops. Maybe the CCP Flu has the customers too busy buying up toilet paper and nothing left for knives? I don't know but I capitalized ok it. I hadn't shopped here before, just googled OTF knives and it was one of the first hits. After checking out the models and seeing Microtechs in stock I had to order one, an Ultratech. Well I am sure glad I did. I liked my Infidel, but this Ultratech is better in every way. It is slimmer, has a better feel, a better blade shape, it's faster, locks up more solid, it's just better in every category. The button is even where it needs to be so you don't have to turn the knife a quarter turn after you fire it. Fit and finish are impeccable, you can choose from 2 blade steels. Lots of different colors too. I broke the pocket clip off my Infidel twice. Benchmade replaced it, but I'd rather they put a better one on in the first place. Well Microtech does put a better one on. Another difference is that the Infidel blade is off center, and is only factory sharpened on one side. They hit the burr on the backside but its in no way even and not something you would expect at that price point. No problem like that with my Microtech. I can't say enough good things about the Ultratech. I was happy with my Infidel and definitely bummed when I lost it. But if that's what it took to get a Microtech it was worth it. If you are looking at these knives than you already know they aren't cheap, so I'm not gonna talk you into it, but if you aren't turned off by the price and you want the best OTF auto you can get, get a Microtech. I am impressed enough that I am planning on getting one every year.
