The Spyderco Jumpmaster fixed blade knife was designed with the help of actual jumpmasters from the Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. Historically, jumpmasters are highly trained personnel who oversee airborne troops as they exit the airplane during parachute operations. In the event the soldier hangs up and his chute fails to deploy correctly, it is the jumpmaster's responsibility to step in to cut the static line to free the jumper. 2017 brings us the second generation of the Jumpmaster, the Jumpmaster 2, which now offers a fully serrated leaf shape style blade instead of a sheepsfoot style blade on the original model. This particular Spyderco model is part of the Spyderco Salt series which was purposely designed to help solve the rusting problem that many users can attest to. The H-1 steel found on this knife is a non-carbon based austenitic steel which means it is not heat treated but, thanks to the small addition of nitrogen, still offers steel-like qualities. This model, the FB24SBK2, features a black bidirectionally textured lightweight FRN (Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon) handle and a fully serrated (SpyderEdge) satin finished blade. This fixed blade also includes a custom-molded Boltaron snap-fit polymer sheath with an adjustable G-Clip attachment for a full range of carry options.
