Last year, I was looking for a really great knife to give to a friend of mine for a birthday gift. The tricky part in picking out a knife for someone else, is trying to decide what they will want to use their knife for and what things they will need to cut. When I choose a knife for myself, it is much easier because I know what features I need in my every day carry knife. I finally picked the SOG Twitch XL. There are several reasons I chose this knife as a gift. The first, is that almost everyone that sees a Twitch immediately comments on how nice it feels in their hand. The SOG Twitch XL is built classy. It looks like it belongs in the boardroom–but it functions like a heavy duty outdoor knife. Second, I chose the Tanto point because my friend is less likely to break the tip off. One of the most common mistakes knife users make is to use their knife as a pry tool. Knives aren’t typically designed to pry, but if someone is going to pry with their knife, a tanto blade has a better chance of surviving than a drop point or a clip point blade. Tanto point knives are designed that way so you can put more pressure on the end of the blade with a smaller chance of a bad result. Third, I got him the Twitch because it performs. This knife flips out fast and easy with the spine flipper mechanism. The spine lock is a nice feature because it is simple and fairly straighforward to use. This is a great spring assist knife. If you are looking for a solid performer for your collection or trying to buy a gift for someone else, any one of the SOG Twitch knives would be a solid choice.
