Zero Tolerance 0566 Assist Knife — Quick Review
Posted by admin on Mar 3rd 2014
At first glance, the 0566 Zero Tolerance is obviously a Rick Hinderer designed knife. With sleek lines, first class ergonomics and quality components, the 0566 is certain to satisfy even the most demanding knife users and collectors.
Start with the blade. The blade is built of ELMAX powdered steel. ELMAX is designed to reach a hardness well over 60 HRC along with good corrosion resistance and excellent edge retention. The production process is superclean and the powder and carbides used are small. This means you have a blade that is tough, and will give a uniform edge when ground and polished. Internal lab tests have shown that ELMAX, even when at maximum hardness, outperforms other PM (powder metallurgy) steels. This is a fantastic blade steel that has proven itself.
The drop point blade has a flat grind and a stonewash finish. It opens easy and smooth with the flipper. You press down on the flipper and the assist mechanism takes over. A ball detent keeps the blade from opening until you give it a start.
The stainless steel handle has a black G-10 scale on the front. A solid framelock keeps the blade securely open. The handle has wide, shallow jimping on the spine where it meets the blade as well as on two locations on the inside edge of the handle. The single finger groove is supplemented with the flipper turned blade guard and gives your forefinger plenty of traction and control while keeping your hand safe on heavy piercing cuts.
Deep carry pocket clip allows you to carry discreetly. A lanyard slot lies on the upper edge of the handle butt for alternate carry.
This entire package is available at under $150. For Rick Hinderer style in an easy-carry size, the new 0566 fits the bill. You can find your Zero Tolerance 0566 on our website here.
