The axe head is crafted from 1095 carbon steel. This steel is tough, takes a very sharp edge, and is easy to sharpen when needed. The nearly 14" handle made from hickory wood is contoured for a solid grip when splitting wood, chopping branches, or any other number of heavy-duty tasks.     Well, I had no idea that Boker was into hatchets. I have to say that this is a gem. 1095 steel is a rarity. Most heads are 1055 in that area and sometimes 1075. This is a casting that is done very well. I suppose the thin blade will stick occasionally when batoning. But knives have that tendency also. The handle is within 10 degrees of being in perfect alignment and is well secured. I will remove the finish and apply linseed oil to the wood to preserve and make it less slippery. This may be one of the finer hatchets in my collection.
