Smith & Wesson Black Ops 4 Assist Knife
The fourth generation Smith & Wesson Black Ops Spring Assist knife builds on the incredibly successful Black Ops series and makes it even better, giving you a knife you will be proud to carry every day. From the drop point stainless steel blade to the aluminum handles, this is a high quality knife built for heavy duty daily use.
The 3.3 drop point blade has a slight recurve in the belly that makes it extra handy for slicing and pull cuts. The blade opens with the MAGIC assist system. You can either use one of the thumb studs or the blade flipper mechanism. Once started, the assist spring takes over and really gets the blade out in a hurry. I have carried four different knives that use the MAGIC system and can attest it is incredibly reliable and durable. For about five months I carried the SWMP3B and used it for so many different purposes it is nearly unbelievable. Never once did I have a problem with the MAGIC assist mechanism. Truly reliable. Three lines of deep jimping are found on the thumb ramp which merges seamlessly with a curve in the handle spine giving your thumb an extremely secure point for blade control. The blade has a bead blast finish and locks in the open position with a liner lock.
The 4.4 handle is black aluminum with serious machining done to both the handle scales. The scales sit atop stainless steel liners. A moderate finger groove sits in the usual spot and a nice swell follows that gives my hand a nice, solid grip. The handle sits at a slight angle to the blade which gives you a forward grip. The handle has jimping in all four corners top spine front and back as well as inside edge front and back. The slide safety is situated almost in the middle of the front scale. When active, it shows a red dot. When locked, it shows black. The lock keeps the blade open or closeddepending on when you activate it. A lanyard hole sits at the base of the handle near the spine side. The tip up pocket clip is right/left reversible. I love the texture on this handle created by the machining pattern.
The knife weighs 4.9 ounces and is available with a black finish and with a combo edge.
I have owned several Smith & Wesson knives. This particular knife is incredible for several reasons. The handle shape and texture makes it ideal for heavy cuts as well as fine cuts. Because of the way the handle and blade are situated in relation to each other, the knife is perfect for extended periods of cutting as well as for thrust cuts. A fantastic knife, it is perfect for daily carry or to throw in your car in case of emergency. At this price, you can pick up a couple and stash them wherever you may need access to a knife.
