The Spec Elite series are manufactured from 6061-T6 hard anodized aluminum and use a state-of-the-art auto mechanism that snaps the blade open with conviction and locks it up tight when it's open. This smaller model, the SE-51, features a satin finish on a 3.5" clip point blade. SOG Spec Elite 1 Automatic Knife
The first thing you notice about the Spec Elite model SE-51 is how incredibly thin it is. This automatic knife delivers power, speed, strength in a body so thin it is almost unbelievable. The 6061-T6 aluminum handle is up to any task and the straight edged blade is more than enough for every job. Add in the deep carry pocket clip for discreet carry and what you have is one of the best automatics for EDC as well as for tactical engagements.
BLADE
The blade measures 3.5 long. Built from AUS-8 with a satin finsh, the blade has an elongated clip point style that makes it perfect for piercing cuts. The V grind on the blade adds plenty of strength to the blade and the edge is ideal for slicing as well as chopping. This is an easy blade to sharpen, which makes it ideal for field work. When the time comes for a slight touch up, it can be done on the fly with a field sharpener. Once you are back to home base, you can get it wicked sharp with a Spyderco Sharpmaker, a Lansky, or any other similar sharpener.
The blade locks in the closed or open position with a slide safety found on the back scale of the handle. The button trigger for the blade sits right in the top corner of the handle. It sits in a slight depression and is simple to activate. Depress and the blade snaps out with serious authority. Lock up on the blade is flawless and there is no play. The blade has a 5/8 long and very shallow curve right where it meets up with the spine of the handle. This is filled with aggressive jimping and gives your thumb the perfect control point with plenty of traction so you dont lose control on fine cuts.
HANDLE
Manufactured from 6061 T6 hard anodized aluminum, the black handle is a classic tombstone style shape. Across both faces is engraved SOG as well as several horizontal stripes that keep your hand in place by providing texture and traction. The handle flares slightly as it approaches the blade and both edges have jimping that give your thumb and forefinger nice traction when the knife is held in a traditional forward grip. The handle also lends itself to very comfortable reverse grip. With the thumb on the butt of the handle, you get all the control you need.
I especially like the reversible deep carry clip which allows for circumspect pocket carry. This knife is ideal for LE as well as Military because of the quality materials used and the extremely reliable construction.
